MEMBER SPOTLIGHT: Honouring Our Veterans, One Story at a Time

Welcome to the Camberwell Pompey Elliott RSL’s Member Spotlight, where each month we shine a light on the remarkable individuals who have dedicated their lives to serving our nation. Through their stories, we celebrate the courage, commitment, and camaraderie that define our RSL community. Join us as we delve into the lives of our members, honouring their contributions and preserving their legacies for generations to come.

Over 85 Camberwell ‘Pompey’ Elliott RSL Sub-Branch members caught up in November 2023, at the Camberwell Bowls Club for their end-of-year function. It was a night filled with fun, laughter, and camaraderie — a safe place for veterans and their families to celebrate the successful amalgamation of 2023 and look ahead to 2024.

The Tramways Band was fabulous entertainment performing a mixture of Christmas carols and songs that had most members up dancing and singing. It was a wonderful evening for all who attended. A heartfelt thanks needs to be extended to the Tramways Band and the members who helped organise such a fun night out for all!

The new club motto — no one left behind — exists to preserve the remarkable legacy of Harold Edward ‘Pompey’ Elliott who was committed to looking after his WW1 soldiers and their families, on the home front.

Peter Barnes, the current Secretary and past member of Tramways East Melbourne RSL Sub-Branch, believes that the new Club is well equipped to be a home that veterans and their families can turn to for help and enjoy social outings like the end-of-year function. The committee is focused on honouring and caring for those who have sacrificed so much for their nation and their families who are impacted by war.

Into the future, we welcome our Emergency Services people to become members. People who serve our communities and seek connection with others who understand their struggles.

Peter Barnes, Club Secretary

‘Our January activity is a visit to a power station, and we are working on an event calendar that will include events that caters for the needs of both our young and senior members, so everyone feels included.’ Peter continued.
